Free Weights Workout Program

Hello everyone,
I'm glad to be here with all you guys. I have a little problem though. I've been working out for a few years now but I've never had the chance to learn how to do a proper squat. Well at the gym today I took the dive and attempted to try it out. Well, it didn't quite work out. My shoulders felt real tight from holding the bar and I felt it more in my lower back than in my legs. If you guys have any suggestions let me know. Thanks. More pictures to come.

Well TJ this is something I struggled with for awhile. I hated doing squats because it did nothing but hurt my shoulders. I started working out with a personal trainer for a few months and he helped me out. He told me to take a wide grip on the bar and place the bar pretty much across the back of the shoulder. When I did, the bar pretty much fell right in a pocket formed there by my shoulders and traps. After that it didn't hurt my shoulders at all. The squat is a great core exercise. Meaning that it is going to take some core strenght (abs, lower back) as well as your legs to do the weight. The key is to make sure that when you go down stick you butt out so that you keep your back straight. Sometimes looking up as you squat down helps with this. I'm pretty sure I have a video on here of how to do a proper squat. Check it out and let me know if it helps
